Comparing Job Roles

Who do you think has the most important role?
I think the sound director and the lighting director are equally important because poor quality sound will affect the production and also poor quality lighting.

Lighting- the lighting can be set up studio lights or sometimes natural light if they are filming outside

Sound- the location would be important they have to consider background noise , music, would include mixing sound and the action

How important are their responsibilities?
Roles such as Sound producer and Lighting Director would have a big responsibilities in their jobs for example a lighting director their jobs would include working with the artistic and production staff this would support the direction plans and production.

What do you think is more important?
I believe that lighting is important as without it would be hard to actually see what could be show on the the big screen. I also think that lighting is important as it is a key factor in shooting a successful film.
It also sets the mood and relates to the genre of the film and how the audience should feel with the different tones of lighting.

Sound- good sound is also important because you need to hear what the characters are saying and also any background music needs to be at the right level.

Responsibilities within a Lighting
Figures out and sects the lighting for production they help to create a lotion, time, and mood; followers style. lighting also make extensive so what they would do is start to make preparations before recording. The day would start out by looking over the script that writers have done the created as it would be another form of communication.
Comparing both jobs roles:
Both job roles have both silmer work doing on set such as Maintain and repair equipment both would be in need of repair as the equipment that both roles need are expensive so if equipment needs repair works there would have knowledge of easily r

Unit 22 P3 Media production Roles
Introduction: For my Unit 41 and 44, I want to have the role of 'Lighting Technician'. In this section I will analyse the skills I have for this role.
S.W.O.T

Creating my own SWOT analysis
I have created a Swot analysis for my topic on a lighting director.I think it shows my understanding with what my role is.
Unit 22 P3 Pass
A) Written Communication
How confident are you writing emails? such as emails and professionalism.
My weakness would be writing emails to companies that may recruit for any videos that I would like to produce with them . For example when I am writing an email I find grammar and spelling difficult ,also how I would start the email off.
In addition when I am writing emails I feel that I don't explain myself very well compared to when I have a face-to-face conversation.
Social media Communication
Verbal Communication
B)How often do you talk with others? When I talk to my group about what we are filming I would be giving directions, of where to place the stage lights and giving instructions.
Are you confident when public speaking or giving directions?
Right now I am not confident about public speaking.I would say that I am confident speaking to other people in my group and giving directions about filming.
C) Practical Production Are you comfortable using......
Production equipment? If not what could you do with more training and support?
Youtube videos- I can watch youtube videos to get more ideas on how I would need to set up. What shade of lighting I would use for filming and I could get an easy idea of what I would be doing when I come to set up my version of lighting to film the bands.
Teachers- Before leaving I can ask teachers what they know and what tips they can give me on how to set up lighting. Also by giving maybe a quick demo of how I would set up any lighting with limited lighting and also how I would use the light outside and how the lighting I'm using would help.
Previous experience-Although I don't have any experience with lighting I can learn from my experience during the production of this unit and I'm able to then count this as my experience.

D) creativity?
How do you define Creativity
Is to come up with ideas on the spot or either be building up ideas whenever or whatever the ideas would be that can be used in the process of the production of the film.As I believe creativity is a job where you need to be always on the job.
What does it mean to you?
It means that you need to have ideas no matter the situation or the topic is based on. I think any creative idea would be good as it's a away of expressing our feeling to one another and it's also how we give communication in our group by verbal communication face-to-face.

Do you think you are creative?
I don't think so much,I only gave ideas that I may have to my group when it was to do with lighting ,as my job would be lighting. I would like to give creative ideas to those who would be filming but could not give any ideas on how they would start filming.
Unit 22 P3 Merit
Job role: Lighting director
Strengths to be a lighting director-
would be to have good communication skills within the team. As communication can give the team better working skills and are able to improve the quality of the film when talking to each other.
What also light directories needs to do I shave an ability to have and follow technical instructions from other groups on the film site such as the director and then maybe the sound craw.
My strength of being a light director is to be prepared on the set this would be for me to watch any videos to help set up or to provide any tips online to see what I can use on the set.
Weakness
Since it's my first time on preparing to light and although I am getting help thought any youtube videos. I feel as though I could not be getting anything right. But my first ideas is not to over panic as or become overstress about as this can mess up the layout of the production on the film.
Skills and qualifications
To be a qualification would be to have a good color vision as you would be working in a number of different tones of lights and you would need to be able to tell which is the difference. Have a good level of fitness within as you would be lifting heaving objects and running around set to be gathering big types of equipment.
Opportunities
The idea would be if an apprenticeship came along if I wanted to continue with creative media. This can give me more learning skills behind filming a movie and show me more about what each member of the crew can do behind the scene.
Are there any significant changes/advancements in your industry?
The many changes would be if the LD (lighting director) receiving the script until studio day which fro them could happen anytime. So what they would be doing is plan meetings a week or two before if things like this happen. Advancement would be to always work in a new atmosphere while also trying new equipment in the studio.
Threats
Is one of your peers doing a better job than you in a similar role?
In our group, we all have the different role to be doing such as editor, director, and lighting but we could have a bit of an argument such as with the director could have a problem with such seeing little light within the camera lens.

Unit 22 P3 Distinction

Distinction learners create their own future skills.
Dear Mr. Weakness and Mrs. Threat: here is how I plan to remove you,
I'm starting Training. I will be getting started training such as an electrical or a construction background with the benefits of the lighting designer.
I would then work my way up towers getting a bachelor of fine arts (BFA).
My training would involve me in a classroom training I would be working with a hands-on introduction. This would be getting me to understand what I would be doing if I was on a real film set. So when I start working on any film sets I know what I will be doing as I have been given the training to do so.
While if I would be in college learning how to be a lighting director I would be preparing for how to work different sets of light to fir for each purpose.
Work Experience
When working getting into a choice of filming I would need to know what the work would be like in an area such as a nightclub and in a studio as well. I would be seeing the different types of equipment the directors would be using either big or small.
I would also be working under close eyes supervision of fully qualified techniques for the first two years. Depending what type of work you would like to continue with normal work experience can take up two to three years. Which the days can work up to four days per week while working for the lighting company.
Qualifications
Need in a college level you need a is a Btec level 2 and 3 in performing arts (Technical theatre). But to entry, you need to have four GCSE grades A*-C
Aslo you are going to need a HND in technical theatre with as least one A-level and three GCSE grades between A-C.
if you are studying a Btec National Diploma you are going to need a pass or equivalent.
However, it might take me this long to actual work in a real studio because of the grades to achieve within my life. Such as getting in any work express if I'm going to be doing lighting director as it could be the start of be actual being in a studio.
Unit 22 P4 Carry out a production role
B able to carry out a production roles a specific media production.
Refer to a role that you have carried out in a project/ unit where you have to worked with others.

-
Refer to a role that you have carried out in a project/ unit where you have to work with others.

My unit that I would be linking with unit 22 is a film based project this is a project by the name of unit 41 production were we have chosen to do a topic on social equality where I have used my role as lighting Director. I have used my role with interviewers, beforehand I have made sure the lighting in areas that we would be using would have good lighting such as outside media room, in head of year office and finally we have found an open space down in our 6th form centre.

2)Evidence/explain the project and describe responsibilities and activities carried out.
My responsibilities in a lighting would be to have good skills and able to manage all aspects of lighting while keeping in mind issues of the cost, safety and also visibility of the equipment as is very expensive especially when having to either replace or buy a whole new set of equipment. Linking with unit 41 I have used lighting equipment mostly with to record in depth with interviews named: Kate, Katie and Michelle I have made sure if lighting would be visual be to the camera eye my job is to follow the director layout in where I should be having the lighting equipment if any source of light would be visual to the camera. One example shows the bad quality in when we’re filming outside in the 6th form common room the photo show that the quality of the natural lighting was not enough to actual see Kate in the camera.

So we have retaken the footage were as you can see the quietly in the clip for the lighting we have change to a more brighter and suitable tone of light this is to fit in with our film to make sure it was in better quality.

3) Explain in depth the role(s) you have carried out and refer to times in which you took on additional tasks within the production process times where you have used imitative or thought on your feet.

What role did you do? What were the jobs you carried out?

My main role that I carried out was a lighting director in my group .I took out tasks and I was able to have carried out my role within setting up lighting equipment and listen to my group’s vision. I have taken my task to understand the works of a lighting director and I’m showing this in my work as part of my understanding as my job role. I have first started out my job role as a lighting director within unit 41, as it was artificial room, lights although this was the case I still made sure the brightness of the light would be visible to see and the outlook would turn out good and suitable quietly.
Did you have any other roles during the production?
I only one had main role in my production team and that was a lighting director. I had no other role in my production team. For the day I have took the role of a sound engineer as we fett as though to get a higher quality film we needed someone on sound. This job role made sure that we were able to have a good understanding on what our interviewees were saying. As my main role for production this film was a lighting director this came in handy when we're interviewing, as I believe without this we wouldn't have had a clear view of whom we are talking to, which was kate head of year 12 .Our first taken on when we were filming kate we was in the post 16 common room, we then changed our ;location to the glass cubicle, where as you can can notice both sound and lighting were used to better quality.

Poor Quality

Good Quality

Unit 22 Successfully carried out role of lighting director
Unit 22 successfully carried out role of lighting director
In these 2 photos you are able to see the different between the lighting in the first as you can see the lighting quality is poor and unable to see Kate (our interview) reason why because
-
Lighting is too dark
-
Poor source of natural lighting
-
You are able to see the equipment bag in the corner
This is given us to change our location into the 6th form cabal where as you notice the change between the two photos
-Better lighting
-Clear voice
- No natural lighting
So far we have made a lot of changes since our offline edit
